Sven Forsberg, Cello

Sven Forsberg was born in Uppsala (Sweden) and studied first with Gunnar Norrby at the conservatory in Stockholm and then with Christoph Henkel at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany, from which he graduated. He attended numerous cello and chamber music courses, among others with Tortelier, Starker, Pleeth, Parisot, Kujken and the Amadeus Quartet. A scholarship from the Swedish Music Academy enabled him to have lessons with Pierre Fournier in Geneva. Following an engagement with the Stockholm Radio Orchestra, he became a member, at only 22 years, of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Geneva.

He made his London debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1985 and played in the New Zurich Quartet for one season. From 1988 until 2010 Forsberg was a member of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg. He is a professor at the Hamburg Conservatory. He enjoys playing barock cello and viola da gamba, but has a spezial love for chamber music in various formations.
